A cognitive assessment is a comprehensive and standardised test which assesses you child’s general thinking and reasoning skills. It will give a profile of an individual’s strengths and difficulties in relation to their learning. At Aspect Autism we use the WISC-V cognitive assessment tool which is a fun, iPad based test. It uses different activities and puzzles to assess various aspects of your child’s cognitive abilities. Children between 6 and 16 years old who experience any of the following could benefit from a cognitive assessment: Difficulties with reading and/or writing, Difficulties with their memory, Difficulties processing information, Poor attention and/or concentration, Struggles with learning in school. If there are concerns around the child’s adaptive functioning an ABAS-3 can also be completed. Adaptive behaviours described the things that children and young people do to function in their everyday life. Your child’s adaptive behaviour will be assessed across three areas: communication, daily living, and social skills
