Understanding ADHD and the Assessment Process

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that can affect several areas of brain function. With the right understanding, care, and holistic support, children and adults with ADHD can lead fulfilling and successful lives.

People with ADHD may experience challenges in a few key areas:

  • Inattention: finding it hard to concentrate, forgetting instructions, or jumping between tasks without finishing them

  • Impulsivity: interrupting others, having a short temper, or being accident-prone

  • Overactivity: feeling constantly restless or fidgety

  • Emotional regulation: struggling to manage emotions effectively

  • Social skills: finding it difficult to form or maintain relationships

  • Sleep: experiencing poor or irregular sleep patterns

An assessment helps ensure an accurate diagnosis and the right kind of support. Almost everyone experiences ADHD-like behaviours occasionally. However, to meet the criteria for ADHD, symptoms must be persistent, significant, and affect more than one area of daily life (for example, at home, school, or work).

ADHD Assessment Process

Our ADHD assessment is designed to be clear, supportive, and thorough. It includes:

  • Session 1 – Initial Appointment:  A friendly, introductory meeting where we discuss your background, current concerns, and what you hope to achieve from the assessment.

  • Session 2 – Diagnostic Interview (DIVA Interview and QBCheck Test:  A more detailed conversation about your experiences, along with the QBCheck test, which helps measure attention, impulsivity, and activity levels.

  • Medication is not managed by Aspect Autism but by our partner clinic
